The winners of Business Traveller’s Cellars in the Sky Awards for 2019 were announced overnight. The annual awards recognise the best business and first-class wines served by airlines around the world with Malaysia Airlines winning the gold medal for the Best Overall Cellar, and oneworld recognised as the Best Airlines Alliance.
Qantas received Best First Class Cellar, and Cathay Pacific was awarded Silver, while for Business Class Malaysia Airlines won Gold for Best Business Class Cellar, with Qatar Airways winning bronze.
For best White wine Qantas won best First Class with a Shaw and Smith Chardonnay (Shaw and Smith Lenswood Vineyard Chardonnay 2017, Adelaide Hills, Australia).
This year the awards introduced a new category the Best Rosé, in First Class, this was awarded to American Airlines for the Château Gassier Le Pas du Moine Côtes de Provence Rosé 2018, Sainte-Victoire, France.
Best Business Class Sparkling was taken out by Malaysia Airlines with Taittinger Comtes de Champagne (2007, France).
Emirates took Gold medals in both Best First Class and Best Business Class Fortified/Dessert wine with Klein Constantia Vin de Constance (2013 South Africa) and Dow’s Colheita Port (1992, Douro Valley, Portugal).
