The move from Qantas is aimed at making it easier to change and arrange your bookings. The text message will give you the option to check-in or cancel your flight at that point.

Qantas To Send SMS Notifications
As part of the Qantas services during this unprecedented time, every passenger with an upcoming Qantas flight will now be sent a text message 24 hours prior to their departure. The move from Qantas is aimed at making it easier to change and arrange your bookings.
Passengers who no longer wish to travel can choose to cancel and the value of your ticket will be placed into credit that can be used for travel with 12 months of purchase.
This new measure has been activated to give Qantas passengers peace of mind if they are not able to contact the airline directly. If you would like more information and are travelling within the next 72 hours please contact your Airfare Consultant.
