As part of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program you can earn status credits by taking eligible flights with a Qantas, Jetstar or oneworld member airline.

To reach Gold you must achieve 700 status credits plus 600 per year to maintain and 14,000 for lifetime status. To reach Platinum you must achieve 1400 status credit plus 1200 per year to maintain and 75,000 for lifetime status. In addition you are required to fly a minimum of 4 eligible QF or JQ flights in a membership year.

As a member of both Gold and Platinum you’re entitled to some pretty great perks including extra checked baggage, priority boarding, priority baggage handling, priority check-in at Business Class counters, access to reward seats, preferred seating and priority waitlist. At both member levels you also have the ability to access to Qantas Club and over 600 international oneworld partner, Emirates and China Eastern Business Class lounges.

Gold members receive 75% bonus points flying on eligible QF, JQ and AA flights and have access to priority security lanes but only when flying domestically.

Platinum members are able to access over 600 international First Class lounges as well as domestic Business Class lounges. They also receive priority immigration, priority security lanes, priority economy seat purchase and priority check in at both Business and First Class counters where available. In addition, they can earn 100% bonus points when flying on eligible QF, JQ and AA flights.

If you fly internationally frequently, striving for Platinum makes sense to get access to the exceptional First Class lounges. If you mainly fly domestically, the main perk with having Platinum status is the access to the domestic Business Class lounges that Gold members can’t access.
