The AirLounge on board Finnair's A350 is a new and innovative seating concept unique to Finnair. We recently experienced the AirLounge when flying from Helsinki to Singapore, after first visiting the Finnair Non-Schengen Business Class Lounge in Helsinki.
The contoured shell provides a cocoon shape to the seat, however, it's controversial design feature is that it doesn't recline. We'll talk about this strange concept later in the article.
Finnair's AirLounge cocoon shape gives a much wide seating space than a normal seat and was very noticeable at first glance when onboarding. We found that this made for a more comfortable experience on our long-haul Business Class flight. The AirLounge has a full divider in-between the middle seats of the 1-2-1 cabin configuration. This divider can be removed if you are travelling as a couple and prefer to be more open/have less privacy in your seat.
Finnair's A350 has one cabin of Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration meaning all seats have direct aisle access. The window seats were angled outwards to the window and middle seats inwards toward each other. I was seated in 3D, a middle seat toward the front of the cabin. One thing I noticed was there was no storage down the middle of the cabin. This gave a much more open feel which was a nice touch.
