Qantas have announced this morning the introduction of a direct flight from Auckland to New York, with the first service to take to the skies in June 2023. With flights on sale from today, this service will rival the upcoming Air New Zealand service with the same route beginning in September.
Operated on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and offering 42 seats in Business Class, 28 Premium Economy and 166 Economy seats, the flight will operate 3 times a week. Departing Auckland on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 5pm and arriving into New York at 5:15am. The return flight will depart New York on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30pm, arriving into Auckland the following day at 5am. The 16 hour non-stop flight will connect through to Australian cities, with a flight from Sydney allowing for a convenient 3 hour stop in Auckland.
The launch of this service means passengers can skip a stop in busy LAX and gives more connection options in Auckland while providing more choice to New Zealanders.
To compliment the new flight, Qantas have also announced a huge investment into their lounges. Auckland will see an upgrade ahead of the New York service in June 2023, with the current Business and First Class Lounges to be replaced by a single Premium Lounge, offering improved services and a new dining experience.
Business Class and frequent flyers will also be able to choose from one of three new lounges to be operated by oneworld partners American Airlines and British Airways.
Adelaide will finally join the leagues of other major cities with the launch of a new Business Class Lounge available to Business Class passengers, Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers. Additionally the invite only Chairman’s Lounge in Adelaide will be completely renovated. Further upgrades and reopens are in store for the Qantas Club in Port Hedland and Rockhampton.
