Fiji Airways is set to elevate its status in the oneworld alliance, transitioning from a oneworld connect partner to a full member. The announcement was made at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) AGM in Dubai, where oneworld CEO Nat Pieper confirmed Fiji Airway's upcoming entry as the 15th full member airline.
Since joining as a oneworld connect partner five years ago, Fiji Airways has streadily integrated itself within the alliance, establishing cooperative relationships with all oneworld member airlines. This move to full membership over the next 12 months will enable Fiji Airways to unlock additional benefits for its Business Class passengers and frequent flyers, leveraging the extensive network and services offered by oneworld.
As a full member, Fiji Airways passengers will enjoy enhanced benefits, including access to all oneworld lounges when travelling with Fiji Airways or any oneworld member airline. This includes the prestigious Qantas First Lounge for eligible passengers departing from Sydney (read our review here) or Melbourne.
Additionally, oneworld frequent flyers will gain access to comprehensive suite of benefits such as earning and redeeming miles, status credits, priority check-in, boarding privileges and lounge access. This adds additional value to book your Business Class trip with Fiji Airways whilst maximising status credit earning potential.
Not only that, but Fiji Airways offers many flight routes ex. Australia. However, if you're a Business Class traveller, it is important to note that Sydney and Melbourne are the only departure cities with fully flat beds.
Fiji Airways, the flag carrier of Fiji and the South Pacific, currently serves 26 destinations across 15 countries and territories, incuding major oneworld hubs like Sydney, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. The airline's wholly owned subsidiary, Fiji Link, will also become an affiliate airline of oneworld, expanding the alliance's network to domestic destinations and regional routes within the Pacific Islands.
As a Full Member to oneworld, Fiji Airway's expanded network to many key stopover/layover cities also benefits the airline’s Business Class passengers and frequent flyers by now allowing them to tap into the full benefits of the oneworld group with maximum status credit earning opportunities.
The transition to full membership is expected to commence immediately and be completed within the next 12 months, with Fiji Airways poised to contribute significantly to oneworld's global connectivity and service offerings. This move comes as part of Fiji Airway's broad strategy to enhance its global presence and improve passenger experiences through expanded services and connectivity.
The integration of Fiji Airways as a full member of the oneworld alliance marks a significant milestone for both the airline and the alliance itself. It promises to deliver enhanced travel benefits, expanded network access, and improved services for passengers travelling to and from Fiji and round the world.
